Destination FAQs

Do I need a visa to travel to Sri Lanka?

A majority of countries will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter Sri Lanka from 27 September 2024. If you are unsure whether you will need an ETA check your specific Sri Lankan visa requirements here by entering your nationality.

For more information about visas, please visit our FAQ page.

Will I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance on all One Life Adventures trips is compulsory. Our group leader will be taking care of you from the moment you arrive, though things can happen which are out of our control. This is why we require everyone who travels with us to have their own travel insurance by the time they depart for the trip. You will have a much more enjoyable trip knowing that you are covered no matter what happens! When you are choosing your insurance policy, it’s important to make sure it covers the following things:

  • Adventure activities included in the tour
  • Medical expenses
  • Personal belongings (in cases of lost luggage or theft)
  • Missed flights

We advise you to check with your local Sri Lankan consulate or embassy to get the most up-to-date conditions. One Life Adventures cannot apply for your visa for you, so please make sure you have sorted it by the time you arrive!

During your visa application process, you will be required to name the first location of your stay in Sri Lanka and their contact details. This location is:

Beacon Beach Hotel, Negombo

What's the best time to travel to Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is great to visit year-round. Typically, the best season to travel to Sri Lanka’s south coast is from December to March, when the weather is dry and sunny – perfect for beach days, wildlife spotting, and coastal adventures in places like Galle, Mirissa, and Unawatuna. Our Sri Lanka group tours run all year, but we offer more departures during these drier months for the best experience.

Do I need to bring temple wear?

Yes you will need to bring temple wear for use at various points throughout the tour. You’ll need to cover your legs, shoulders & chest so for men remember to wear t-shirts rather than singlets and for women, sarongs are ideal to drape over your shoulders.

Is it safe to travel to Sri Lanka?

Yes, Sri Lanka is generally safe to visit, and most travellers have a smooth and enjoyable trip. As with any destination, it’s best to stay aware of local advice and avoid any demonstrations. Travelling with One Life Adventures adds extra peace of mind. Our experienced guides are there to support you every step of the way.

Our 12-day Sri Lanka group tour covers key highlights like Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, Mirissa, and Negombo – giving you a perfect mix of cultural landmarks, scenic train rides, beach time, and local flavour.
