Live life with intention. Live as though this is all there is.

  • Nearly a new month and I have decided on a new mini-project. I have become tired with making excuses as to why I can't be as fit as I know I can be and I figured enough is enough. So, as of a week ago, I have made a plan to become more accountable with myself - essentially it is only my opinion that counts at the end of the day and I know I can reach my full potential with proper exercise and healthy eating (note - I refuse to "diet"). So stay tuned for photo updates of how everything turns out!
  • As the days merge into winter, I find myself winding down for multiple reasons. The camp is getting slower, the days shorter and my need to have an afternoon nap seems greater. But the way I figure it - it's all a perfect opportunity to get caught up on everything. So this wee I have bought myself my first board game to add to the collection I have always wanted. Bring on Scrabble nights! Who needs TV anyway?

  • As the weather gets colder and the layers of clothing is piled on, I find myself making more plans for the future. For house renovations. For the garden I want next spring. For my education. For my career.
  • I am slowly nearing the end of my Lemon Life project in blog writing and I hope that I will be able to find something new to focus on when I am done.
  • Things continue to plug along and though I know deep in my soul that Te Araroa Trail was not the be-all end-all in outdoor adventure for me, I still find that the normalcy of life as I know it to be enough of an adventure to satisfy. By removing my television from my home all of a sudden I find a vast amount of time that I can now dedicate towards more life-enriching projects. Who knows what will come of that.
  • In looking back over Te Araroa Trail, I can confidently say that I am so close to publishing my book about the adventure walking New Zealand that I can hardly stand it. Stay tuned for when and where you can get your copy!

  • It's official - I have finally finished writing my book about mine and Alex's journey along Te Araroa Trail. It has yet to be published as it is still going through the final stages of the editing process, but it is as done as done is. Stay tuned for more information on when and where you can get your copy!
  • Having made the choice to back out of doing the T42 Marathon on May 5 (paying off debt was more of a priority), I am now looking ahead at ways to stay motivated in my fitness. I have started back at the basics again - working on my mental focus and motivation for fitness rather than the physical aspects of pushing myself. My theory is that by building up my mental strength at the same pace as I build up my physical strength, my fitness will be better overall. We'll see how that works out.

  • Definitely long overdue for an update and it's tough to know where to begin. 2011 has come and gone and 2012 has since brought about a whole new realm of adventure. Swapping tramping boots for flip flops, lightweight tent for a two-bedroom house - I have fully settled into my life here in Hanmer Springs
  • My New Year's Resolution? Try to do the marathon along the 42 Traverse near Tongariro in the north island of New Zealand. Scared? You bet. Wondering why I chose to do such a difficult race for my first ever marathon? 24/7.
  • In going the life of the domestic, I have taken on caring for animals - found a kitten in the tree and took her home to name her Lucy. My bosses have opted to go conquer Te Araroa Trail next season and so Jess (their golden retriever) will be in my care. Another friend has gone to guide on Mt. Everest and so I've taken in his Alaskan Malamute. Let's just say things have gotten a tad interesting in the past couple months...

  • I have finally received approval for my work visa to continue my stay in New Zealand - one thing checked off my list... next is to convert my drivers license
  • The new assistant managers of the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp have begun the lengthy process of being trained to take on their new position. In the meantime I have moved into the spare staff house and now have so much space I hardly know what to do with myself!
  • Te Araroa Trail is still very fresh on my mind as I continue to write my book of Alex's and mine adventures that started over a year ago...
